OUR HISTORY

Kreher Steel has been in business since 1978. In the decades since, we’ve supplied a broad array of industries with carbon steel, alloy steel, and stainless steel bars, steel tubing and steel wire along with an expansive range of finishing and processing services, from saw cutting and chamfering to cold-heading, annealing, pickle lines and more

1978

Kreher Steel Company, LLC is founded as a distributor of carbon, alloy, and stainless steel bar products.

1985

Kreher Steel acquires American Bar Sales, with sales offices in Detroit, Michigan, and Dallas, Texas with a warehouse in Midlothian, Texas.

1986

We purchase the 56,000 sq. ft. office and warehouse facility in Melrose Park, Illinois, which is Kreher Steel’s headquarters today.

1988

Kreher Steel acquires our Houston, Texas facility and opens the sales office and warehouse in that market.

1998

We achieve ISO certification of our quality management system by Intertek (a certification body accredited by ANAB).

2000

Kreher Steel acquires Kreher Wire Processing, Inc., in Romulus, Michigan.

2001

Kreher Wire Processing attains ISO certification of our quality management system by Intertek (a certifying body accredited by ANAB).

2006

Kreher Steel is named a Caterpillar Inc. Wrought Steel Approved Supplier.

2007

Kreher Steel acquires Special Metals Incorporated, a leading distributor of quality steel and steel products. Special Metals’ warehouses and sales offices are located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Houston, Texas.

2008

Kreher Wire starts up a new, high quality, state-of-the-art pickle line, while meeting or exceeding all IFI-140 standards.

2009

Our quality management system is certified to ISO 9001 standards by Intertek USA and Intertek Sweden.

2010

Kreher Wire Processing’s quality management system is certified to ISO 9001 standards.

2013

Upgrades to our computer systems allow real-time monitoring of production and increase our ability to trace product.

2013

Two new wire draw blocks are added – a Cheng 32″ inverted block running material .170-.500″ and a Cheng 42″ horizontal block running material from .900 to 1.750″ – producing a better package and reducing the tension in coils. Both are the first of their kind in America and both were made to order.

2014

Our quality management system is certified to ISO 9001:2008 by Intertek of Kentwood, MI, USA, a certification body accredited by ANAB, and by Intertek Certification Limited of Derby, United Kingdom, a certification body accredited by UKAS.

2017

The purchase of two new climate-controlled warehouses adds 44,000 sq ft of space adjacent to our main wire processing plant.

2017

The addition of a box furnace increases production and flexibility of annealing low carbon material, allowing us to run up to 38,000 lbs. per cycle.

2019

Our quality management system is certified to ISO 9001:2015 by Intertek USA, a certification body accredited by ANAB, and by Intertek Certification Limited of Derby, United Kingdom, a certification body accredited by UKAS.
